The mill consists of a simple but sturdy overhung beater cross design with ease of accessibility and cleaning. The standard machine is of cast iron. The mill occupies a minimum of bench space. A 1.5kW motor drives a beater cross at 8000rpm above a curved replaceable screen. In its new form the grinding chamber is mounted above the motor and the shaft is driven by means of a short toothed belt. Sturdy overhung beater cross design • 1.5kw motor driving a beater cross at 8000rpm above a curved replaceable screen • Bench mounted • Grinding chamber mounted above motor and shaft driven by a short toothed belt • High grade steel alloy beater cross consisting of four arms • Ability to reverse beater cross when edges worn • Perforated plate type screen regulates size of ground product • 2 cast iron frames supplied • 8 perforated plate screens with hole diameters 0.8, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0, 2.25, 3.0mm • Must meet all requirements of UK Health & Safety at Work Act • Electrically interlocked door which makes it impossible to start machine without door closed • Extended inlet throat to avoid injury to fingers • Specially designed front hinge for cleaning • Bearings sized to give long trouble-free operation • Bag collection system serves dual purpose of collection and air filter The perforated plate type screen is fitted in the bottom section of the grinding chamber, and this regulates the size of the ground product. With each machine 2 cast iron screen frames are supplied together with one each of eight perforated plate screens having hole diameters 0.8, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0, 2.25, and 3.0mm. |
The equipment comprises a 4 liter stainless steel batch mixing vessel and double cone volumes of 2 litres, equipped with an electrically driven interrupted helical ribbon. The speed of the ribbon blender may be varied and measured with the tachometer supplied, in order to study the effect of speed on the mixing process. The power input to the unit is measured with a voltmeter and ammeter. At the opposite end of the drive shaft to the motor, a double-cone mixer may be mounted in order to study the operation of an alternative type of mixing unit. The equipment is bench mounted. Volume: 0.40m³ |

When preparing small quantities of new products homogenisation is often a vital operation required at some stage of the process. Until now suitable small scale equipment has not been available and product development technicians have been unable to reproduce the full scale process in the laboratory. The Armfield Homogeniser fulfills the need for a laboratory size unit to permit small batches to be processed and evaluated before proceeding to full scale production design and operation. It permits reproducible tests to be carried out using only a few litres of food material. Easy to use > Economical > Small processing samples ease the disposal of waste The FT9 homogeniser has been designed to complement the other processing equipment in the Armfield miniature scale R&D range. It is particularly useful for disintegrating fat globules in milk, ice cream and UHT dairy products. The unit can also be used for salad creams and sauces. The double action of the homogeniser valve causes the mixture under pressure to be subjected to shear and compressive forces between the valve faces and impinge violently against the walls of the chamber, ensuring thorough dispersion. Results of performance using whole milk gave homogenisation indexes of 5%. This index refers to testing homogenised product for fat content at the top and bottom of a sample and comparing the difference. Normal standards require an index of less than 12%. Hardened stainless steel is used for the cylinder block which contains the valve and positive displacement piston, also of hardened stainless steel. The homogeniser is driven by an integral electric motor and gearbox and is supplied complete with pressure gauge, tools for maintenance and 4.5 litre stainless steel feed tank of hygienic design. A pressure safety valve is incorporated in the valve assembly. |
This type of filter is widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, brewing and distilling industries. The laboratory size unit is robust and versatile and has been designed to allow clear demonstration of the mode of operation as well as a high degree of experimentation for scale-up to industrial processes. A fully self-contained plate and frame type filter press constructed entirely in stainless steel. A centrifugal pump is mounted integrally in the framework and is connected to the filter inlet via a throttle valve and pressure gauge. The filter pack is made up of four plates and four frames which will accept a dressing of seven filter sheets 200mm x 200mm. The filter pack and sheets are compressed manually using a hardened steel screw thread. Filter surface area is 0.22m² and solids holding capacity is 1.5 litres. A back pressure valve is located at the filter outlet. The slurry to be filtered is connected by hose to the pump suction, and the pump is connected to a suitable electricity supply. A hose fitted to the filter outlet takes the clear filtrate to a suitable receiving vessel. The plate pack has been designed to allow washing of the filter cake when filtering is complete. A pressure gauge situated at the filter inlet is used to monitor the filtering process. |
